Places to See in Assam

Digboi Golf Course
Amidst the vast expanses of dense forests and exquisite tea estates lies the 18-hole golf course of Digboi, considered to be the best golf course in the whole of Upper Assam. Every year, tournaments, at both national and international level, are played here.

Deopahar
Deopahar is a very famous historical natural spot located within the district of Golaghat, Assam. The place, with its ancient monuments and ruins, lies close to the NRL (Numaligarh Refinery Limited) complex within Golaghat District. Mythology often relates this place with the Kingdom of Jarasanda.

Kamakhya Temple
Kamakhya temple is one of the biggest Shakti shrines in the whole of India and also serves an important pilgrimage center for the tantric worshippers as well as the general Hindus. It is a place where the beliefs and practices of the Aryan communities coincide with those of non-Aryan communities, in Assam.

Assam State Museum
Assam State Museum is a representation of the unique culture and tradition of the northeastern state. It surpasses all the other museums in India, as the biggest multipurpose museum displaying collections in a variety of sections, like archeology, iconography, epigraphy and even numismatics.

Powa Mecca
Standing atop the Garurachal Hill in Hajo, just adjacent to the Madhava Temple, is the much renowned shrine of the Muslims - Powa Mecca (1/4th Mecca). The most famous Muslim pilgrimage spot in Assam, it noted as the tomb of Pir Giasuddin Auliya, who was the pioneer of Islam in this part of the world.

Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary
Since its establishment in the year 1997, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary has been playing a major role in the research and conservation of the primate community of the animal kingdom. The sanctuary is situated at an approximate distance of 19 km from the city of Jorhat and covers a total area of about 20.98 sq km.

Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra, in the northeast state of Assam. Covering a total area of about 430 sq km, it is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the state. The history of the park can be traced back to the era when Mary Victoria Leiter Curzon, the wife of Viceroy of India Lord Curzon, visited the place, in the year 1904.

Shiva Dol
One of the most sacred and revered pilgrimage centers in India, Shiva Dol is a major tourist attraction in Sibsagar. It is not only the tallest Shiva temple in northeast India, but also the highest Hindu temple in the whole of India. The entire temple has a height of about 104 feet and a perimeter of 195 feet.

Da Parbatia Temple
Tezpur, the city of mythology, folklore, and legends, is situated in the Sonitpur district of Assam. Situated amidst lush green valleys and lofty snow capped peaks of the Himalayas, the city is the ultimate travel destination of every tourist and nature lover. A few kilometers west of the city are the remnants of one of the oldest and the finest illustrations of sculptural or iconoclastic art in Assam - Da Parbatia Temple.

Mahabhairab Temple
Mahabhairab Temple, located atop a small hill in the northern part of Tezpur, is considered as a major landmark of this ancient city and contributes a lot to the magnetic charm and beauty of the place. It is believed that the original temple was made of stone, constructed by Banasura.

Nameri National Park
Around 35 km from the city of Tezpur, at the foothills of the eastern Himalayas, is situated one of the most exquisite park of Assam - Nameri National Park. Covering a total area of about 200 sq km, it is considered to be one of the richest as well as the most threatened reservoirs of the plant and animal kingdom.

Manas National Park

Nestled at the foothills of the mighty Himalayas, Manas National Park is one of the most seraphic wildlife surroundings in India. Deriving its name from the Manas River, taken from the serpent goddess Manass, Manas National Park is the only home to many exotic animals.
